The Gulf Islands International Program is unique in Canada. It is one of the few programs that is truly committed to quality over quantity.
When the program became too successful a few years ago, we decided it was not in the best interests of our international students to continue to accept large numbers of students so we dropped our enrolment cap from 15% to 10% at the high school and established a 5% cap at the middle school.
Our goal has always been to have a program that promotes cultural awareness through ethnic diversity.
Although not yet there, we hope to eventually achieve an equal balance between our Asian, Latin American and European students. In time, we also hope to attract new students from other parts of the world.
We recognize that our international students are attracted to our program for different reasons. The majority of our Asian students, for example, are mostly interested in academic study programs that lead to entry into post-seccondary institutions or in the English as a Second Language program.
Our European and Latin American students are mostly interested in our cultural awareness program, although the speciality and supplementary programs are also important considerations. Academic challenge is also important as our international students are chosen because of their academic ability, attitude, and willingness to make the most of their Canadian experience.
The agent pages are designed specifically to provide important information about the program, schools, and the community to the agents that we work with. You will see that we have provided a number of links that will help you find the information that you need quickly and effectively. Because the international students have different educational needs and goals, we have arranged access according to the different regions of the world: Asia, Europe and Latin America.
